Sheriff Is Guest Of Music Dept.

The Mixed Chorus and the Girls' Chorus had Mr. Joseph Sheriff, local musician and business man, as their guest one morning during National Education Week.
Mr. Sheriff spoke to the students about music as a career and as an avocation. He discussed various television programs and their merits. Later he played the piece, "Yes, We Have No Bananas" on the piano and demonstrated how the notes had been "lifted" from other songs.
Mr. Sheriff climaxed his visit by singing a. selection of songs. Subscribe for the Hi-Times.

Commercial News

"F, D, S, A; J, K, L," are some of the sounds that you hear when you walk past the typing room. As you already know, W.H.S. has a large group of students interested in becoming good secretaries and typists. These students listen to and heed these sounds because they and many others make up the Commercial Department.
The secretarial course and the clerical course are two choices you have in filling out your Commercial application blank.
If you select the secretarial course, you are required to take Bookkeeping 1, shorthand, office practice, etc....
If you select the clerical course, you are required to take Bookkeeping 1, Bookkeeping II, clerical practice, etc. . . .
The other day your reporter was walking through the hall and heard Rose Wargo and Mary Lou Wozniak talking about the club. Rose thought the club had some good activities and that it brings the Commercial students closer together, Mary Lou agreed with her. Elaine Pauley thought the club was good, but that there should be more improvements made. (To make it better, of course).
Have you ever '.seen Joan Lucas, Janet Mickey, and Joan Couperthwaite studying for a shorthand test? Boy, don't they take the "cake?" Before a test, they walk around writing in mid air and saying s-oo-e-t which is supposed to spell sweet.
  That certainly brings back memories.
At the end of the .year, it is customary, if the treasury of the l Commercial Club permits, to buy a gift for the school.
In the past years, typewriter, adding machines and many other mechanical -devices have been bought for the use of the Commercial students. It is surprising how the adding machines helps those who are taking Business

The Home Ec. Department

The Home Ec. Department had two interesting demonstrations during National Education week.
The first demonstration was given by Mrs. Alex, a seamstress for the Eureka Stores. She showed the girls how to do different types of alterations and pointed out several faults common to beginners.
The second demonstration was given by Mrs. Cassler. In this demonstration Mrs. Cassler told about different kinds of ceramics, the ways of shaping them and the technique of painting them.
She also showed the girls how to roll and shape ceramics by hand and with a small rolling pin.
Mrs. Cassler brought a display of finished ceramics for the girls to see.

Math and Bookkeeping.
Yes, that "F, D, S, A;" that you hear has a true purpose behind it. And those that have it, take advantage of it.
