Doris Ripple Elected Queen
  Doris Jean Ripple, an active member of the senior class, has been selected to represent the Order of the Rainbow for Girls as their "Holly Queen." Doris will reign over their "Holly Hop" which is to be held December 26 at the American Legion Home.
  Selected for this honor by a majority vote of the members of this organization, Doris Jean will have these girls as the members of her court: Sally Morris, Janice Christie, Linda Aldstadt, and Danielle Smith.
  Doris Jean is not only active in Rainbow for Girls but has been very busy with other organizations in the high school. She has held such offices as: Secretary of Student Council, Freshman Secretary, and Sophomore Treasurer. Doris has also been active in the Jr. and Sr. Y-Teens, Commercial Club, and Mixed Chorus. She also shared the honor of being selected as attendant to the Football King and Queen for the annual Sr. Varsity W dance with fifteen other girls.

Hi-Times Holds Party

  The Journalism Class held their Christmas party on Thursday, December 17th.
  The party was on the order of a "covered dish." It was held during the lunch period in the library. Dorothy Luch was in charge of the refreshments.

Greek Teacher To Visit W. H. S.

  Mrs. Helen Haralamboulous, a native of Athens, Greece, and a teacher in the secondary schools of that city will visit the Windber school district during the month of January.
  Mrs. Haralamboulous came to the U. S. under the Travel Grant, a branch of the Teacher Education Program of the Department of State and the U. S. Office of Education. This grant brings foreign teachers to the U. S. to observe our system of education.
  The teachers spend several months in the U. S. visiting different states and cities, observing the actual conditions in classrooms of this country.
  This program is designed to create better understanding among educators and students all over the world.
  Mrs. Haralamboulous is specializing in secondary education. In Athens she is a teacher of French and literature at the Fourth Female Gymnasium.

Canteen Dance Helded Dec. 26

  The Windber Teen - Canteen plans to hold their annual Christmas dance on December 26.
  The dance will be held at the Recreation Hall. Dave Dysert and his orchestra will furnish the music from 9 to 12. The price of admission is 50c.
  The Canteen Christmas dance is better known as the Patrons Dance because different organizations and many individuals donate money. This helps to meet financial difficulties for the rest of the year.
  The Jr. Board of the Canteen are now working on the letters to be sent to the people of Windber. The committees for this dance have not been appointed yet.

Y -Teens Help Needy Family

  The Senior Y-Teens again will help some needy family at Christmas time, as they have in the past.
  A dance called the "Can Can Dance" was sponsored for just this purpose. The admission was one can of food or 25 cents. This helped to increase the amount of canned goods the family would receive.
  Items that had not been donated at the door will be donated by members of the club.
  A special service committee has been appointed to collect the food and clothing and to deliver the package to the family in time for Christmas.

Teacher Plans Florida Vacation

  Miss Fornear, a teacher in the music department, is planning to take a trip to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for her Christmas vacation. She intends to stay there for. the entire two weeks.
  Miss Fornear is going to stay with some of her friends. She is going to travel by plane.

Miss Fornear Attends Conference

  Miss Olive Mae Fornear spent two days in Harrisburg recently attending a conference of the Pennsylvania Music Education Association. The conference was held in the Penn-Harris Hotel.
  Besides business meetings, Miss Fornear attended many interesting clinics. Several very interesting musical groups from schools in the state were on the program. These included instrumental and vocal music.
  Miss Fornear is president of the Central-Western district of the P. M. E. A., a state-wide organization.
  Miss Fornear said she enjoyed her trip very much.


Students Picked For Central Western
  The following students were selected to represent Windber High School at the annual Central Western Band event at Kittanning on January 21, 22, and 23: Dorothy Pevahouse, flute; Glenn Williamson, trombone; Betty Mickle, bellyre; Leonard Volk, solo clarinet; Carol Daily, 1st clarinet.

Sophomore Class Holds Meeting
  The sophomore class had their annual meeting on December 2, in the auditorium. Class dues were discussed at the meeting.
  The class voted that the dues should be 75c for each student. They also discussed the sophomore dance which is to be held on February 12. The king and queen will be selected from the members of the sophomore class. The class officers are: President, Gwynn Gahagen; Vice President, George Benko; Secretary, Mary Ellen Miller; Treasurer, Mary Eleanor Botlock.

Choruses present Christmas Chapel

  The music department of Windber High held their annual Christmas Chapel on Dec. 18. The program was presented in the auditorium second period for the entire student body. The Mixed Chorus presented a cantata of a selection of favorite Christmas hymns. The chorus was accompanied by a Hammond organ through the courtesy of the Eureka Stores. It was played by Miss Fornear.
  The Girls Chorus sang the following numbers: "Christ Child Divine." "As It Fell Upon the Night," "Mark the Herald Angels Sing," "Blessed Christmas Morning," and the following discounts: "0 Little Town of Bethlehem," "Christmas Bells," "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," "White Christmas." The accompanist is Martha Keller.
  The Girls' Ensemble sang the following numbers: "Noel," "Birthday of a King," "Sweet Little Jesus Boy," soloist, Rosemary Wargo, and "Sleigh Ride."
  Songs of the Mixed Chorus were: "Carol of the Bells," "The Bells," "Glory to God," "A Wonder as I Wonder," soloist Larry Wirick, "Cantata," "Child Jesus," by Closke and Hallelujah Chorus from "The Messiah." The accompanist is Joane George.
  "Silent Night" was sung by the choruses and audience. The orchestra played the following numbers: Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town, Good Men Rejoice, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, A Merry Christmas, While Shepherd Watched Their Flocks by Night, Good King Wenceslas, The First Noel.
  Mixed Chorus sang the Hallelujah Chorus from the "Messiah," which concluded the program.

Rainbow Girls Sponsor "Hop"

  The Rainbow Girls of Windber Assembly No. 65 are sponsoring a Christmas formal called the "Holly Hop" December 28. The "Holly Hop" will be held at the American Legion Home with music furnished by Freddy Ravida's orchestra.
  The price of admission is $1.50 per couple and ;stag tickets may be purchased for $1.00. Dancing will be from 9 to 12.
  The highlight of the dance will be the crowning of a Holly Queen at intermission. Doris Jeanne Ripple, the worthy adviser of the Windber Assembly, was chosen to reign as Queen at this gala event. Members of her court are: Sally Morris, Janice Christie, Linda Alstadt, and Danielle Smith.
  Tickets for the Holly Hop may be purchased from Rainbow members or nnay be purchased at the door.
  Everyone is welcome.

Santa's Work Shop

  This year again the art shop is a busy place for the students. Some of them are still working on their plaster of paris ceremics. Mr. Emery has ordered figurines for the students to buy before Christmas.
  Fran Tantorno has just completed her pretty white swan ash tray and Bob Bartek has just finished his colorful television lamp.
  Sally Betting and Fannie Morgan are using their artistic talent painting Arabian Hindus. Many of the students have ordered more for Christmas gifts.
  Other artists are working with plastic paper-weights, brooches and pendants. John Sombronski's finished products are outstanding.
Principal agricultural products of Fayette County are fruit, poultry, dairy products and beef cattle.
